The Price of Glory: Verdun 1916 by Alistair Horne, is a classic text on the World War I battle of Verdun in which 700,000 soldiers lost their lives. The book, while a little dry, really illustrates the confusion and chaos of warfare. The book accurately depicts the costs involved when military leaders are closed minded and don't have a flexible picture of what is happening on the front lines. Sounds kind of similar to some other situation that I just can't put my finger on. . . .
I have to admit that I have more that a little bit of a shoe fetish. Generally, I tend to prefer sneakers or casual shoes, since they are more likely to be in my price range. I have spent more than a few hours browsing Shoes.com, which is a great website by the way. My current favorites are made by Rocket Dog and they are called Old News. I think they make you much faster in general as well as more attractive to most people.
